How To Celebrate Labor Day Weekend In Howard County, Maryland

How To Celebrate Labor Day Weekend In Howard County, Maryland

The three day weekend is just around the corner. It’s a great time to think about what events may be going on. Whether visiting family for barbecues or family reunions, or welcoming visitors from out of town, there are a variety of ways to celebrate Labor Day , in and around Howard County, MD.

Farmer’s Markets

Every weekend is ripe with farmer’s markets in Maryland, but taking the time to visit the The Maplelawn Farmers Market in Fulton this weekend can give your barbeque or best casserole that extra ingredient to make them beg for your recipes.

Maplelawn Farmers Market is open every Saturday through November 5th. They offer online delivery which can be done Tuesday through Friday for pick up on Saturday or delivery via DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Postmates. Check their website for times and order information.

On Saturday September 3rd, they are giving away a free tote bag with online orders and the Not 2 Cool Jazz Band is scheduled to play.

Whether you’re looking for fresh fruit and veg, farm raised beef and pork, cookies, dog treats, or peanut butter whiskey, Maplelawn Farmers Market has something for everyone.

For Labor Day Weekend Howard County Sunday Farmers Market  is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, not Sunday, September 3rd. The market hosts over 10 vendors including those with great prepared foods, beautiful flowers, a host of fresh produce and much more.

Located a stone's throw away from Blandair Regional Park in Columbia, MD, the farmer’s market is a great place to pick up some jerk chicken, a loaf of sourdough, a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, maybe a pie or two, and if you’re so inclined, a bottle of rum.

19th Annual Ellicott City Labor Day 10K & 5K

On your mark. Get set. GO to the 19th Annual Ellicott City Labor Day 10K & 5K on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022 at 8:00 a.m.

Run 10K through the western Ellicott City countryside and surrounding neighborhoods and 5k on the dirt/grass combo trail on the Shrine property. Both the 10K & 5K are USATF certified.

Sunflowers

Take a ride on the Enchanted Express Train, hop up on the hay wagon, or take a pony ride at Clark Elioak Farm Sunflower Showcase in Ellicott City, MD. Labor Day weekend is the final weekend to view the sunflowers and enjoy the day.

Kettle corn, lemonade, and cotton candy are provided by Kettle Krazed to help make the family experience even sweeter. While there you can visit the petting zoo or stop by the farmer’s market.

Hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Monday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Dinner & a Musical?

Also, located in Columbia, you can find Toby’s Dinner & A Show. Labor day weekend Toby’s will be presenting Ghost, The Musical. There is one show on Friday and two on Sunday. They have a great buffet, a large salad bar, and, again, if you’re so inclined, a full service bar.

Toby’s has received several Helen Hayes award nominations for the excellence of their productions. A nice night out and a nice break from the other events you may have planned for the weekend.

Tournament of Nations

The UABL, United African Basketball League, is sponsoring the Tournament of Nations on Labor Day, Monday September 5th. Located in Meadowbrook Park in Ellicott City, the event is “the Ultimate Celebration of Panafricanism”. The event will have DJ’s, vendors, mini-games, while teams battle it out.

Their goal:

“This Labor Day We Unite the Nations."

The event runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. “Come Rep your Country and Party at the Cookout”.
